2023 Amherst Island Birding
Covid brought out many hobbies for many people. I threw myself further into cycling, a hobby and passion I've had for the better part of two decades. Alas, I never saw birding as a hobby. Indeed, if you asked me what that red bird was on of a pathway near the local park, I'd have no clue what it was. That's mostly changed, and I've been spending more and more time studying and watching birds.
This trip was the culmination of my desire to see Snowy owls in the wild. After some research, I found Jon Ruddy, a talented, friendly birder, who offers tours throughout Ontario. After capturing over 1,500 images throughout the day, I had just a handful I think worthy of presenting. The day was a mixed bag, as we did not see any of my beloved snowies, but we did manage to find:
- Northern saw-whet Owls
- Barred Owls
- Short-eared Owls
- Rough-legged Hawks
- Cooper's Hawks
- Bald Eagles
- Many more raptors
